Nursing Mother ought to be careful with perfumery and cosmetics

Tests of breast milk, carried out in the laboratory of one of the American states, has revealed a high content of synthetic musky compounds commonly used in production of perfume additives for cosmetics and household chemical goods. Concentration of musky compounds in breast milk fluctuated from 2 to 1000 nanograms (1mkg). For example, concentration of musky xylen was from 2ng to 150ng and musky ketone – from 2 to 238ng. For all that mean concentration of some musky compounds in breast milk was five times more as compared with tests, carried out 10 years ago. Based on these data the scientists calculated that on average American breast fed children consume up to 300ng of musky xylen, up to 800ng of  musky ketone and more than one microgram of other musky compounds every day.  And though at present there is no any data that such musky concentrations may cause damage to children, just to make sure nursing mothers must avoid contacts with full-flavoured cosmetics, perfumery and household chemical goods.
