Bactericidel Activity of Essential Sage Oil

Essential sage (Salvia Officinalis) oil has been traditionally used in folk medicine to control infection. Its bactericidal activity was tested on 13 cultures of bacteria and 6 cultures of fungus, including Candida albicans causing thrush. The results of these experiments have shown that sage oil is one of the effective bactericidal and fungicidal agents. Exceptionally effectively  sage oil suppresses growth of colon bacillus (Escherichia coli), Salmonella and Shigellae.  In such a way traditional use of sage oil has received scientific grounds.
